In South Melbourne, the unique island site of Piccolo House provided the perfect canvas to bring this vision to life. Surrounded by streets on all sides, the site inspired a design that engages with its environment at every angle, seamlessly integrating history, artistry, and functionality.
The original Victorian terrace on Dorcas Street has been carefully restored, reimagined as private offices that retain the elegance of its heritage while meeting the needs of today. Along Charles Street, the design takes a bold artistic turn. Drawing inspiration from Giblett’s evocative paintings of urban life, the façade features panels of Corten steel in varying shades, creating a tactile and dynamic streetscape that celebrates South Melbourne’s creative spirit.
At ground level, bespoke retail and commercial offerings were crafted to encourage activity and connection, adding to the vibrant character of the neighbourhood. These spaces, together with the building’s design details, reflect Piccolo’s enduring commitment to crafting environments that are as functional as they are beautiful.
